These terms explain what you can expect from TJR Affairs when you book with us — and what we expect from you. We've written this in plain language so it's easy to understand. If anything here is unclear, email tjraffairs@gmail.com and we'll explain.
1. How TJR Affairs works
TJR Affairs is a marketplace of independent vendors based in Chicago, IL. When you place an order, different items may be fulfilled by different vendors (for example, chairs by one partner, balloons by another). Your sales rep coordinates the whole order for you, so you deal with one point of contact.
2. Booking and payment
- 75% deposit is due at booking. Paid via Zelle to your sales rep using the handle shown at checkout. Your order is not confirmed until the deposit is received.
- The remaining 25% is due BEFORE we release any items. For delivery orders, the truck does not leave without final payment confirmed. For pickup or shipping, items are not handed over until final payment clears. Please plan to send final payment at least 24 hours before your event.
- All prices are in US dollars.
- We do not accept credit cards on our website. All payments are via Zelle. No money flows through our website.
- Price changes: once your deposit is paid, your price is locked. If we make a pricing mistake on the site before your deposit, we may correct it and you can accept or cancel.
3. Cancellations and refunds
- Cancel 5+ days before your event → refund of 75% of what you've paid so far (we keep 25% to cover design work, ordering materials, and holding your date).
- Cancel less than 5 days before your event → no refund. Your deposit covers the materials and time already committed to your order.
- Custom items that have already been printed or produced (banners, backdrops, T-shirts with your names/design) are non-refundable once production starts, regardless of when you cancel.
- To cancel: contact your sales rep or email tjraffairs@gmail.com. We'll confirm cancellation in writing.
4. Delivery and pickup
- Delivery is free in our service zone (shown during checkout). Outside the zone, delivery is not available for chairs or balloons.
- Pickup is free for banners, T-shirts, and backdrops at our designated pickup location during pickup hours.
- Shipping is available for banners, T-shirts, and backdrops only at a flat fee, to anywhere in the continental United States.
- You must be present at the delivery address for chair and balloon setups unless arranged otherwise.
- Setup timing is confirmed by your sales rep before the event. We typically arrive 1-3 hours before your event start time.
5. Outdoor setups
If you indicate your event is an outdoor setup at checkout, you acknowledge that outdoor events carry weather and logistics risks. TJR Affairs is not responsible for damage to rental items caused by weather, ground conditions, or other outdoor factors outside our control. In severe weather conditions (heavy rain, strong winds, lightning), we reserve the right to delay or cancel outdoor setup for the safety of our team and equipment.
6. Rental items — care and damage
- You are responsible for rental items (chairs, benches, props) from the time of delivery until they are picked up.
- Damage or loss: if a rental item is damaged beyond normal wear or lost, you are responsible for replacement or repair cost.
- Normal wear is expected. Small marks, scratches from normal event use, and minor wear do not result in charges.
- Do not let guests climb on, stand on, or otherwise misuse rental items. Throne chairs are for sitting, not for stunts.
7. Custom items — design approval
For banners, backdrops, and custom T-shirts, we'll send you a digital design draft for approval before we print. Once you approve the draft, printing starts. We are not responsible for errors in approved designs (check your names, dates, and spelling carefully before approving).
If you need revisions before approval, that's included. If you need revisions AFTER approval and production has started, you may be charged for reprinting.
8. Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your password confidential.
- You're responsible for all activity under your account.
- Don't share your account with others. Each customer should have their own.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse our staff, or engage in fraud.
9. Limits on our liability
TJR Affairs and its partners provide event rental services on a "best effort" basis. While we work hard to deliver great events, we can't guarantee outcomes beyond our control — including but not limited to weather, venue restrictions, supplier delays, or events that don't happen due to reasons beyond our control.
Our maximum liability for any claim related to your order is limited to the amount you paid us for that order. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential damages (such as lost profits, emotional distress, or venue fees).
10. Disputes
If you have a concern about your order, please contact your sales rep first. Most issues can be resolved quickly by talking directly.
If we can't resolve it together, we prefer mediation before legal action. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois. Any legal disputes will be handled in the courts of Cook County, Illinois.
11. Changes to these terms
If we meaningfully change these terms, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and notify account holders. Your continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms. Orders placed before changes are governed by the terms that were in effect at the time of your order.
